Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
Cracking toast Grommet! Even Asta was impressed even though I did have to distract her from looking at shoes on the internet, her "sickness" she calls it.
Had a thought on the nacelles though. Shouldn't be much more complicated. Give me a ring when your free and I'll give you my idea.

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
Figured out how to upload pics. Heres some on the fuse build. As you can see I've just pinned the pieces together and attached the first former. Once formers are in then it will be wrapped in 3mm depron. I'm going to put some ligthening holes in the fuselage main parts before I glue together. No quite as impressive as Mike's but I only have a little workshop and a few power tools (well quite a lot actually).

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
Looking good keith,
love the lightning holes...lol...will be so light anyway.....superb...
lol....i wouldnt worry about being impressive, some of our best work was done when my workshops are not much larger than yours..to be honest most days i walk in an wonder how the hell we did anything in the space we had, (400sqr feet area) for 5 machines, printers, benches, machine tools, materials, stock......were now in 2000 sqr feet, and its completely full, just deosnt add up.
keep it coming friend.......looking forwad to seeing this come together..
got the tail fin done yesterday, with the inset rudder, just forgot teh cam AGAIN!!!!
great work mate!

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
If anyone ever needed to question why I like the VC10 and Vulcan so much just look at this you-tube video especially around 3:27". Just awesome I wish I had seen it for real. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0NlWiMFNBI . Now back to the build and off the computer.

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
well guys,
A little more progress made today...
Rudder now fitted, and set in, so that it rotates inside the fin..
also re-designed the engines, i wasnt happy at all, with the way they were, to close to the right size and i couldnt shape them, now they are looking more like it.
Got time to also make up and fit the tips to the wings....to me it kinda makes the VC-10 wings.

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
The model looks better every time I see it....I love the way the fans just drop into the new nacelles. Just like records into a jukebox, (Oops! Showing my age!)
Can't wait to see the retracts going in, I wonder how far she will roll before lifting off? Did you notice that they were getting off in 8/9 seconds on the video......Thats quite good for a "Big Lady"!!!
Cheers Gazza

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
Superb Keith,
glad to see things moving on.....
Hotwire...yes, def the way forward, its almost a must for some of the more complex parts i think were going to need.
Not had a chance to look at mine for a few days, but flaps next, get them on, adn see if i can find teh retracts i have....erm....mis-placed!

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
Well, i got a little more done...
flaps fitted, not quite as i wanted but.
After an inordinate amount of a**e scratching, i deiscovered that i cannot ofset hinge the outer flaps at the angle of the hinge line was wrong.
so i had to fit than directly....
they look ok...but...

Also fitted a aly suport for the engines, things progressing better...lol

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
Thanks Ady,
Was going to split for 2 servos over all, but given the low cost of 9g servos, i think 4 on the flaps, weight is negligable.
also the links are short so should be positive.
hope to get them hooked this week...

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
Kieth,
That looks very good......sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
your engines are made very similar to mine.....to be honest i couldnt think of another way to do it...
Not had chance to look at mine for a week...been tied up with moving the websites.
I hope you feel better after your fall!
Keep it coming friend....

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
just fully clocked teh locking mech to hold the engines straight, when fitted.....superb idea...
also on landing all the loads are spread through the fuse, superb!!!

Re: Vickers VC-10 Twin/Quad EDF Proto build
Hi Mike
Have you seen this months QEFI chris golds has a VC10 as a feature plan. Looks quite an impressive build but a but a bit smaller than mine (if ya know what I mean !!) . But although I think he's a very clever man and profilic builder it doesn't look quite right to me. I think the nose is a bit off and the engines nacelles are to close to the fuselage and don't look right at the rear. Your looks very good. I'm probably just an old anorak !!
